Dr. Andrew Gaetanom PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS Professor of Gross Anatomy at Sage Graduate SchoolDr. Andrew Gaetano, co-owner of Capital Area Physical Therapy and Wellness, steps into a new, additional, role as the Professor of Gross Anatomy at Sage Graduate School’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. He discusses the benefits of being a concurrent professor, clinician, and business owner.

In addition to being a full time clinician and co-owner at Capital Area Physical Therapy & Wellness in Malta, he is the Professor of Gross Anatomy at Sage Graduate School’s Physical Therapy Program, one of the first courses physical therapy students take when they enter the program.  The course consists of a depth analysis and identification of functional anatomy structures and cadaver dissection.

“I can be in the anatomy dissection lab teaching the anatomy of the spine and back, and then a few hours later be in the clinic treating someone with back pain”, says Gaetano, a doctor of physical therapy.  “Teaching has definitely had a positive influence on my outcomes in treating patients clinically”.

Gaetano has been teaching at the college for four years but this is the first year he has stepped into the roll in the anatomy course.   “Anatomy really lays the ground work for the rest of your career as a physical therapist, and I’m extremely lucky to be able to get such a close, in depth look at it on a daily basis”, Gaetano notes.  “If you can visualize the way things should move, it helps to make it clear when things aren’t moving correctly and you can accurately identify the source of someone’s pain or discomfort”.

Andrew Gaetano, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS is a doctor of physical therapy and board certified orthopedic physical therapy specialist at Capital Area Physical Therapy & Wellness, with clinics in Malta and Queensbury, NY.  He is the professor of Gross Anatomy at Sage Graduate Schools Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, teaching both in lecture and cadaver dissection aspects of the course. In the Fall and Spring, he also teaches both Neuroscience and Interventions labs.
